ASEAN Parliamentarians Call for UNSC Action

Asean parliamentarians appealed to the United Nation Security Council to take action on Myanmar in New York last week. Three members of the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus, Indonesian Member of Parliament Djoko Susilo, Filipino Member of Parliament Loretta Rosales, and Thai Senator Jon Ungphakorn, spoke at a panel discussion on the regional implications of the situation in Myanmar.

UN Security Council Votes to Address Myanmar

On Friday, September 15th, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) voted 10 to 4, with one abstention, to formally place Myanmar on the council’s agenda. The vote formally acknowledged Myanmar’s threat to peace and security in the Southeast Asian region.

United States Calls for UN Security Council Action

On September 1st, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations wrote a letter to Greek Ambassador and current President of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Adamantios Vassilakis requesting that Myanmar be formally added to the agenda of the UNSC.
